Babajide Odusolu, (born October 5, 1971) is the Chief Executive Officer of Octo5 Holdings Limited,[1] the holding company of a real estate focused group of companies in Nigeria, which includes Octo5 Estates Limited (formerly known as Legacy Realities Ltd).
Education
Babajide Odusolu is a qualified legal practitioner and holder of a LLB. (Hons.) degree from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995. He is also an alumnus of both the Lagos Business School of the Pan African University, Lagos and Cranfield School of Management, United Kingdom.[2]
Early Career
Babajide Odusolu started his career with a legal pupillage post-call with Babalakin & Co, Legal practitioners, where he had his first exposure to real estate development as one of the counsels attached to Victoria Garden City project[3] initiated by HFP Nigeria Limited between 1994 and 1995. He then joined Ecobank Nigeria Plc, as an Assistant Legal Counsel between 1995 to 1996. He joined Texaco Inc's Nigerian subsidiary – Texaco Overseas Petroleum Company Unlimited (TOPCON), in 1997 as a legal counsel and was subsequently assigned to head the Legal and Contracts section of the Operations Department in Warri, Delta State of Nigeria as the Contracts Coordinator. At point of Chevron’s global merger with Texaco,[4] he opted to leave the Nigerian subsidiary under the special voluntary separation scheme initiated by ChevronTexaco in 2001 and had the unique privilege of being one of the youngest ever voluntary “retirees” in the Nigerian upstream sector.
Business Career
Though a lawyer by training, Babajide saw the future prospects of real estate development especially within the Lekki/Ajah axis of Lagos State, as far back as 1996, when the area was largely undeveloped. He founded Legacy Realties Ltd and Legacy Holdings Ltd in 1997 & 2001 respectively and served as the pioneer Project Coordinator and subsequently Managing Director. During this period, Legacy Realties Ltd birthed several transformative projects and the most successful were Heritage Place off Monastery Road, Sangotedo which was the first project delivered in that neighborhood and Ocean Bay Estate, Lafiaji, Lekki which again was the first successful project on the Ocean side of Chevron/Alpha Beach.[5]
Soon after the completion of these projects, he was appointed as a Special Adviser to the immediate past Governor of Ogun State and Managing Director of Ogun State Property Investment Corporation (OPIC), one of Nigeria's largest development companies.[6]
Between 2013 - 2019, Babajide Odusolu was a key member of the Ogun State Housing Team, Managing Director of Ogun State Property Investment Corporation (OPIC) and Director of Gateway Mortgage Bank Limited[7]. He led the successful total turnaround of OPIC and the development of several award-winning projects such as MTR Gardens, kilometer 6, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Isheri; New Makun City, kilometer 53/55, Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Orange Valley Estate, Presidential Hilltop, Abeokuta and MITROS Residences Hotel in Abeokuta. He and his team were also responsible for the successful overhaul of the internal primary infrastructure at OPIC Agbara / Igbesa Industrial Estate (one of the largest industrial estates in Sub-Saharan Africa) within a six-year period.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
In May 2019, he resigned as the Managing Director of OPIC and returned to the private sector and oversaw the comprehensive rebranding, restructuring and ongoing reimagination of the vision to deliver affordable homes across Africa using Octo5 Holdings Limited, the successor company to Legacy Realties. Through Octo5, Babajide is leading the charge to provide affordable housing & standardized communities across Nigeria with his team of innovative pioneers.[15]
Awards
Babajide has won several individual and corporate awards for his various endeavors in the Nigerian Real Estate Sector and he is an active member of both Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria(REDAN) and the Housing Advocacy Network.[16][17]
