Early life and background
Babli Kumari was born in Begusarai district, Bihar. She married in 2013 and joined the Bihar Police as a constable in 2015, motivated by a desire to support her family as the eldest daughter.[1]
Police career
Upon her selection in 2015, Kumari was posted at Khagaria and subsequently at the Police Line in Begusarai. During her tenure, she managed routine policing duties alongside her preparations for higher competitive examinations.[2]
Competitive examination and DSP appointment
Kumari first began preparing for the BPSC examinations in 2019 but did not clear the preliminaries on her first two attempts. In her third attempt (2021 prelims), she discovered she was six months pregnant. Undeterred—despite medical concerns regarding her pregnancy—she continued her studies in a Patna hostel and maintained her routine until her final success in August 2022. On 25 August 2022, Begusarai Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar formally relieved her of constabulary duties so she could commence DSP training at the Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir.[1][3]
Personal life
Kumari is married and a mother to a daughter who was seven months old at the time of her BPSC success. She credits her husband and extended family—who offered childcare and moral support—for enabling her to pursue her ambitions alongside her professional responsibilities.[2]
Recognition
Following her accomplishment, Kumari’s achievement was widely covered in national media, and she has been lauded as an inspiration for women balancing family and career in traditionally male-dominated professions.[3]
