Backyard Skateboarding is a skateboarding video game developed by Humongous Entertainment and published by Atari. It is part of the Backyard Sports franchise and was released on September 27, 2004,[1] for Windows, followed by a release for the Game Boy Advance the following year on October 4, 2005.[2] The game is the only entry in the franchise to not be based on a team sport and only entry to have not received any sequels, although a Game of the Year edition was released the same day as the GBA version, adding another location and another playable character to unlock. The game focuses on a child version of Andy Macdonald and the Backyard Kids entering a skate tour to win a new skatepark.[3]
Gameplay
In a stark contrast to other Backyard Sports games, the gameplay of Backyard Skateboarding focuses on completing tasks by performing skateboarding stunts, unlocking accessories, new locations, and new players as a result.[4]
Reception
Jinny Gudmundsen of Common Sense Media gave Backyard Skateboarding a 4-star rating, stating that while the game lacked educational value, it was "a very fun way to skateboard and never get hurt."[5] The game won the award for Computer Children's Game of the Year at the 8th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards.[6]
