Badamli (Azerbaijani: badamlı) — Mineral spring in Badamli settlement of Shahbuz region, the Republic of Azerbaijan.[1][2][3]

General information[edit]

The discovery and introduction to the world of Badamli mineral water is connected with the name of Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Aziz Asgarov. Badamli, produced since 1947, is the first and most popular water brand in Azerbaijan. Badamli, sold to 15 allied republics during the Soviet era, won the hearts of all buyers in the Soviet Union with its rich composition and unforgettable taste.[4]

After the collapse of the union in the 1990s, the export of Badamli water stopped due to difficulties in the transition to a market economy. The springs, named after the village of Badamli, were discovered in the late 19th century as a result of cracks in the ground. Badamli table water facilitates digestion and increases appetite. The minerals it contains have a positive effect on the human body, as well as help to restore the missing minerals in the body. It is produced on an industrial scale as a valuable table water.

Badamli mineral waterbed[edit]

Badamli spring is located in the south-west of Badamli village of Shahbuz region in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is an integral part of Azerbaijan, at an altitude of 1262–1274 meters. Badamli forms a group consisting of several springs.[5]

Water comes from five sources in Badamli and their daily productivity is 1.1 million liters. Badamli water contains hydrocarbons, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, iodine and other useful minerals. The total mineralization of these springs is 0,4-7,4 g/lt, and the temperature is 17-22 °C. The pH value is 7.5.

Drinking Badamli water is useful in gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract and some liver diseases. The Badamli 5 spring, which is currently in operation, is considered to be table water due to its relatively low mineralization rate. The total mineral value of the spring is 450 mg/liter. This is such a value that when used, it meets a significant part of a person’s daily mineral needs, while not creating an excess of minerals in the body during long-term use. Operating reserve of Badamli 5 spring is estimated at 700 m3/day (1972).[6]

Badamli mineral water plant[edit]

Badamli plant has been operating in Shahbuz region since 1947. Between 1970 and 1980, when the plant was rebuilt, 90% of its output was exported from Azerbaijan. In 1990, the Badamli plant was restored. The plant left the Nakhchivan Mineral Water Production Association in 1999. It was privatized in 2004.

The plant, of which construction began in August 2008 in Nakhchivan, was located in an area of 2,1 hectares. The total area of the building was 4 thousand 590 m2, and the production area was 3 thousand 600 m2. The length of the line transporting water from Badamli field to the plant was 25 kilometers.

In 2017, the construction of a new Badamli production facility with a total area of 10590 m2 on an area of 4 hectares at the source of Badamli spring began. The facility was put into operation in early 2020 at a distance of 60 meters from the spring in Badamli settlement.

Badamli waters are packed by Badamli Mineral Sulari LLC indoors without human contact, with the application of the highest technologies adopted in Europe and the world. The facility has an ISO 22000 Food Safety certificate and the products meet world standards. The packaging process at the facility is carried out using equipment manufactured by the French company Sidel. In addition, the facility has a special laboratory equipped with modern equipment made in Germany and the United States. Here, water quality is regularly monitored, physicochemical, microbiological and organoleptic analyzes are conducted. Badamli is produced in different volumes, being carbonated and non-carbonated. The daily production capacity of the existing production facility is 500.000 conventional bottles.[7]

Along with the Azerbaijani market, Badamli is currently exported to foreign countries such as the Russian Federation,[8][9] the People’s Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Kazakhstan.[10][11]

Badamli has been memorized since the day it was produced due to the chilliness and good mood it gives to people, and songs have been composed in its name.

In culture[edit]

The freshness and fame of Badamli water did not escape the attention of famous artists such as Rashid Behbudov and Anatollu Ganiyev, and was reflected in their performances.[citation needed]
