Sultan ul Arifeen Bade Sarkar[edit]

Sultan ul Arifeen Hazrat Khwaja Sayyid Hasan Sheik Shahi (born 1188 - died 1230) was a Muslim Sufi mystic, saint and scholar of the Suhravardi order from Badaun, in what is now India. He was the disciple and the spiritual successor of kazi Hamid al-Din Nagawri, as head of Suhravardi order. Before him the Suhravardi order in India was confined to Bengal and Nagaur. He played a major role in establishing the order securely in Badaun. Today, his dargah (sufi mausoleum) is located on the bank of Sot river at Badaun city.

Bade Sarkar had much influence on sufism in India. As he continued and developed the traditional ideas of universal brotherhood and charity within Suhravardi order, a new dimension of Islam started opening up in India which had hitherto not been present. He forms an important part of the Sufi movement which attracted many people to Islam in India in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. People of every religions like Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, etc. visting every week at Dargah.

Life[edit]

Khwaja Hasan was a great Sufi master who was born in 1188 at Bukhara, in what is now Uzbekistan, to Azizuddin Badauni and Bibi Tui. He was one of the founding fathers of the Suhrawardi sufi order in Indian Subcontinent. Bade Sarkar recieved his early education at Multan, which had become a centre for Muslim education; it was there that he met his teacher Haji Jamal Multan, a noted Sufi saint. Upon completing his education, Bade Sarkar left for Badaun and Delhi.

Once his education was over, he moved to Delhi, where he learned the Islamic doctrine from his master, Kazi Hamid al-Din Nagawri. He later moved to Baduan, where he spread the message of Islam through mysticism in the region.

Bade Sarkar's shrine darbar is located in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh , India.

Urs[edit]

The Urs (death anniversary) of Bade Sarkar is celebrated at Bade Sarkar Dargah on the 24th of Ramadan, and that of Chote Sarkar on the 21st of Ramadan.
