Badmus, Akeem O known by his stage name Baddy Oosha, is a Nigerian mogul, musician, singer, songwriter, label owner, entrepreneur, television personality, movie producer, actor, public figure and rapper.[1] Baddy Oosha is credited as being the face behind Nigerian street music, having helped pioneer and develop the music scene in Nigeria, discovering multiple artists such as Small Doctor, Oladips, Street Billionaires, Wale Turner and new YBNL signed artist Picazzo to name a few.[2][3][4] Baddy Oosha has created hits such as E’semi, Fidi Gba Mic ft Reminisce, Ibile freestyle, Talo’n Shaye ft Small Doctor, Timbalowo ft Olamide and 9ice, and Angeli ft Lekwise which have all been met by positive critical acclaim and has in turn accrued him a large social media following.[5][6]

Early life

Baddy Oosha; also known as Lion, was born on the 30th of September and is a native of Ayetoro, Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria, he was however raised in the neighboring area of Agege in Lagos.[7][8][9] Growing up in Lagos Oosha was exposed to the vibrant sounds of his people garnering an interest in music, similarly he had a keen interest in acting ignited by Nollywood movies and desired to one day be an actor.[10] Akeem meaning “wisdom” adopted the stage name Baddy Oosha as “Baddy” is a moniker given to him by his late grandfather as a variation of his surname and “Oosha” meaning: small god, because of the presence he holds and the manner in which he captivates audiences.[11][12]

Baddy Oosha went to what he describes as a “very ordinary school” whilst in Nigeria. Upon graduating he moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in order to further his education studying 'Business Management' later moving to Kingston, Jamaica to study 'Music Management and Production' honing his skills where he remained for four years, travelling around the Americas.[13]

Acting career (2006 to present)

Baddy Oosha’s first acting credit was in Oyun Oge; a Nigerian produced film released in 2006, followed by another Nollywood production; Taabakanju released in 2007 after which he began acting professionally. In 2017 Oosha acted in Alakada Reloaded, alongside an all-star cast; Odunlade Adekola, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Iyabo Ojo, Kehinde Bankole, Woli Arole, Nedu, Helen Paul, Lilian Esoro, Annie Idibia, Bidemi Kosoko, Liz Da Silva, Gabriel Afolayan and Comedian Ebiye.[14] Oosha’s most notable role to date was in the 2018 film; The Ghost and the Tout, in which his performance was praised by critics cementing his place in the film industry.

Musical career (2010 to present)

Baddy Oosha’s musical career spans over ten years, being active in the music industry writing songs for other artists in the beginning of his career. Oosha has always been able to pen hits and often lent his talents to produce music for others, however in 2013 Oosha decided to move into the spotlight releasing his debut single E’semi in 2014. Baddy Oosha performs bilingually often switching between Yoruba and English often in the form of Pidgin appealing to audiences internationally. Oosha now has over 10 songs to his credit, hits such as Timbalowo released in 2016, remixed to include 9ice and Olamide in 2018.[15] Timbalowo is Oosha’s biggest hit to date, other popular songs include FO featuring Tipsy and Angeli featuring Lekwise, E’semi, Fidi Gba Mic ft Reminisce, Ibile freestyle and Talo’n Shay ft Small Doctor.[16][17] [18]

Discovered artists

Baddy Oosha has discovered a plethora of artists notably; Small Doctor, Oladips, Street Billionaires, Wale Turner and new YBNL signed artist Picazzo[2].[19] Oosha has always valued the use of social media and has used his platforms to both discover and promote artists[20]. In December 2018 Oosha launched the #Whodeychallenge, which invited aspiring artists to freestyle over his “No condom” beat, WhoDey is a phrase popularized by Oosha.[21] The challenge winner; MOHBAD was announced in January 2019, and he is to be rewarded a life changing price; a music video shot by one of Nigeria’s most revered music video directors Lucas Reid.[22] The challenge trended on Instagram and featured thousands of entries.[1][23]

In November 2018 there was controversy surrounding who discovered Olamide’s new artist Picazzo, the matter went viral on social media trending on twitter. Tunde Ednut, took credit for discovering the artist, however Olamide; a friend and frequent collaborator of Oosha, cleared up the issue stating he discovered Picazzo on Baddy Oosha’s Instagram.[24][25] Olamide went on to say “he [Baddy Oosha] is the Nas, Reminisce is the P Diddy while I’m the Larry Hoover[26]

Popularity

Baddy Oosha’s popularity continues to increase, as of January 2019 Oosha became verified on Instagram with over 760,000 Instagram followers.[27] Oosha’s influence is not only visible among his fans but also his contemporaries, with artists such as Small Doctor, Reminisce, Burna boy and Olamide frequently mentioning him in their songs showing appreciation for his support for not allowing street music to die. He is well respected by artists such as Davido and 2 Face; who was among the celebrity attendees at his birthday party in 2018.[28][29][30] The name “Baddy Oosha” frequents the blogs, constantly being a hot topic of conversation among Nigerians and publications such as Punch Nigeria and Vanguard Nigeria.

Business ventures and philanthropy

Baddy Oosha is a well-established and successful business man currently operating three businesses; D Yice production and Oosha Empire Ent. in Nigeria.[31][32][33] In Dubai where Baddy Oosha has resided since 2014 he is partner and co-founder of Oosha Empire Audio and Visual Equipment along with female German and Emirati co-founders.[34][35] Oosha is an international promoter, using his celebrity to sphere head events across Africa, the Middle East and Europe.[36]

Baddy Oosha frequently engages in philanthropic activities, giving back to the streets that he loves so dear.[37][38] Oosha mentors individuals in Dubai, sponsors students internationally; paying for school fees and providing opportunities to those who need them most.
