Bader Abdulmutaleb Ibrahim Ali Yousef Khraibut (Arabic: بدر عبدالمطلب ابراهيم علي يوسف خريبط; born July 19, 1991) is a Kuwaiti physician, political lobbyist, and businessman. Khraibut is the grandson of the former Kuwait National Assembly member, Ibrahim Khraibut.
Early Life & Education[edit]
Khraibut was born in 1991 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where his family had temporarily relocated during the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait and the first Gulf War. The Khraibut family is a branch of Al-Nasser clan of Meccan Sharifs whom had settled in Al Ahsa region of present-day Saudi Arabia before migrating to Kuwait in the late 1800s. Khraibut's grandfather, Ibrahim, a signatory on the Constitution of Kuwait was a prominent family member responsible for the nationalization of Kuwait's oil reserves.
Due to his father's position an investment officer for the Kuwaiti Investment Authority, Khraibut spent his childhood and completed his primary and secondary education in Morocco, England, Kuwait and Canada. Khraibut completed his pre-medical studies at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin, Ireland obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the Ras Al Khaimah College of Medical Sciences at Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
Medical Career[edit]
Upon completing his primary medical qualification, Dr. Khraibut completed a post-graduate internship with the Kuwait Ministry of Health and commenced clinical practice in Psychiatry at Kuwait Center for Mental Health. Labelled "one of Kuwait’s most dedicated psychiatrists" [1] by The Times Kuwait, Khraibut was successful at implementing psychiatric services at a primary care level and reducing the stigma associated with mental health in Kuwaiti society.[1]
Kuwait Mental Health Act[edit]
Khraibut had been one of the major proponents of the creation of a Mental Health Act in Kuwait, labeling it's absence the "most pressing issue"[1] for mental health in the country. Khraibut lobbied extensively with Kuwaiti parliamentarians and in public forums leading up to the Act's drafting and passage[2] by the National Assembly in March 2019.
