Baghayo Saqware
Baghayo Abdallah Saqware, (PhD) (born October 10, 1974) is a Commissioner of Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) from 2017 to 2019 and January 2022 to date.[1].
Introduction
Baghayo Abdallah Saqware started his career as a compliance officer with National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and later he joined Institute of Finance Management as a lecturer in Insurance, Social Protection and Risk Management subjects for 14 years. Prior to joining TIRA as a Commissioner of Insurance, he held numerous management positions including Dean of Faculty of Insurance and Social Protection at the Institute and Secretary to Insurance and Social Protection Technical Team that advises Bank of Tanzania on Insurance and Social Protection related issues. He also worked as a Lecturer at Tanzania Institute of Accountancy and as Executive Chairperson of Africa College of Insurance and Social Protection (ACISP)[2]
Education
Dr. Baghayo Abdallah Saqware earned his PhD from the University of Central Lancashire (UK) in 2012.[3]. His dissertation was entitled “Research on Insurance Management and Micro Insurance Perspectives in Tanzania”. He successfully completed his MSc. in Insurance & Risk Management at the CITY Cass Business School in UK in 2005. He successfully completed Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management (PGDFM) at the Institute of Finance Management in 2003. He completed Advanced Diploma in Social Security Administration (ADSSA) at the Institute of Finance Management in 1999. He completed Advanced Certificate of Secondary School at Mazengo Secondary School in 1994. He completed Ordinary Certificate of Secondary School at Arusha Secondary School in 1991
Career
Baghayo Abdallah Saqware (PhD) was first appointed to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Commissioner of the Insurance at the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) on 25 February 2017[4]. He worked in the position until 25 June 2019. He was re-appointed to the position in 2022[5][6]
From June 2019 to date, Dr. Saqware also serves as the Executive Chairperson of the Africa College of Insurance and Social Protection Institute[2][7].
