Capt.Dr.Baghdad Khan Umerkhel belonged from Bannu.He was from the tribe of Banuchi(Shitaks).He was very talented from his youth days. He was the first Muslim and Pashtun Doctor of Bannu and neighbouring areas.He was the most wealthy person of Bannu at that time that's why he was known as Khananan-e-Bannu

Early Life[edit]

Dr.Baghdad Khan ( born 10 October 1910) in Bannu to Mir Mast Khan.He belonged to the noble Umerkhel subtribe of Banuchi(Shitaks).He was quite good in studies and often topped through his school and college life.From his very youth days he used to solve the disputes along with his father Mir Mast Khan among the neighbouring tribes and khels.Along with his studies he was also known for his intelleuct and the ability to bring peaple on one page.

Family[edit]

Dr.Baghdad khan had seven brothers which died due to some diseases one or two years after they were born.He belonged to the well renouned Umerkhel subtribe of Banuchi(Shitaks).The Umerkhel subtribe of Banuchis were well renowned warriors amongst Banuchis.They were fierce fighters.Whenever any foreign power invaded Bannu they use to resist them physically and majority of the times defeated them or otherwise gave them tough time.The Umarkhels were so powerful that at one time the peaple of Bannu and neighbouring areas used to say that:

   "Umerkhele zor na me Khudaye osota"
   which means:
   "ALLAH keep us save from the wrath of Umerkhails"
translated from Banuchi Pashto dailect.

Education[edit]

Baghdad Khan did his (MBBS) from "The Punjab State Medical Faculty" in the year 1933 and then he became a Captain Doctor in the army.He was the first (MBBS) doctor of Bannu and neighbouring regions.

Wealth[edit]

Dr.Baghdad had so much wealth that the first twelve cars in Bannu from BU1-BU12 belonged to him.

Hospital[edit]

He also had a hospital which was known as Baghdad Khan hospital people used to come here from everywhere also people from the provinces of Khost,Paktia,Paktika used to come there for their treatment.

School[edit]

A school was also built by him for the children.It was one of the top school of Bannu

Hobbies[edit]

Baghdad khan was very fond of horse riding at that time he had six-seven breeds of different horses.He used to ride them in his farm house whenever he was free.He also liked hunting,weapons like swords,guns,pistols

Generosity[edit]

Baghdad Khan was a doctor by profession.He was that much generous that he used to treat the poor peaple who could not afford their appointment freely.Till that day the Bannuzai tribe and people of Bannu acknowledge this

Bagh(Garden)[edit]

Along with other property he was also given a bagh from his father which was known from his great-grandfather's time from that Bagh everytime grapefruit used to come on first position for its quality throughout Asia and was also supplied to the Viceroy of India.It is also mentioned in Bannu's 1883-1884 gazzetor about that bagh(Garden).
