Adeshola Folashade Ann Ezeokoli (born April 15, 1977), known professionally as Dr. Shola, is a British-American physician of Nigerian and Guyanese descent. She is an author, speaker, and wellness consultant, and the founder and CEO of Balance With Dr. Shola LLC, a corporate wellness and executive coaching organization. Her work focuses on physician burnout, identity-based wellness, and leadership development.[1]

Early life and education

Ezeokoli was born on April 15, 1977, and is of Nigerian and Guyanese descent. She earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Ibadan College of Medicine, Nigeria, in 2001. She subsequently obtained board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in 2011 and 2023. She holds additional certifications in life coaching, business consulting, organizational leadership, and executive coaching.[2]

Career

Medical practice

Ezeokoli has practiced internal medicine across hospital medicine, urgent care, and telemedicine settings. Her career has also included roles in compliance and healthcare administration.[3]

Coaching and consulting

Ezeokoli is the founder and CEO of Balance With Dr. Shola LLC, through which she provides executive coaching, organizational wellness consulting, and leadership development programming. She also serves as a mindset coach for Wholist Health, contributing to weight and lifestyle wellness programs.[4] She has spoken at various national and international conferences.[5]

Public engagement and media

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a video Ezeokoli created addressing physician suicide and mental health gained widespread attention online. She subsequently appeared on Fox 32 Chicago,[6] Fox News,[7] CBS and ABC affiliates, WGN Radio, iHeartRadio, and the USA Radio Network to discuss physician burnout and emotional well-being in healthcare. She has also appeared in Outcome Health TV health information clips.[8]

On August 23, 2025, she delivered a TEDx Talk titled From People Pleaser to Purpose Driven: The Strategic NO at TEDxCFK (College of the Florida Keys), addressing identity, boundaries, and psychological patterns underlying people-pleasing behavior.[9]

Awards and recognition

Ezeokoli received Certificates of Recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for her work in Cardiovascular and Diabetes Care from 2014 to 2017.[23] She received a certificate of appreciation from the SDG-3 Global Health Initiative, an affiliate of the UNESCO Center for Peace, for programming delivered on the subject of emotional eating in March 2021. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was recognised with an Everyday Heroes Award by Mary Kay.
