Ball and doughnut
The Ball and doughnut[1] was a slang term used by BBC 1 and viewers for the world globe – a symbol of the BBC from its earliest Empire days – and its reverse. It was produced with an analogue process using offset mirrors and analogue colour correction, and came from a small production studio at BBC Television Centre (the NODD) with a camera that could be moved by remote control over twelve television screens to regenerate the picture, generally referred to as "Noddy".
