The International Biofuels Exchange BALTPOOL is an electronic trading platform where auctions of standardized biofuel products take place. The biofuel exchange is supervised and regulated by the State Energy Regulatory Authority.

BALTPOOL is a private limited company whose shareholders are directly owned by the state-owned company EPSO-G UAB (67%) and Klaipėdos Nafta AB (33%). General Director of the Company is Andrius Smaliukas. BALTPOOL biofuel exchange currently has over 500 participants from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland.

History[edit]

BALTPOOL was founded in 2012 as the first biomass exchange in Europe. In 2019, the company entered the Finnish, Swedish, and Polish markets. At the end of 2020, BALTPOOL launched the trade of biomass through ships.[1]

Sustainability and quality certifications[edit]

BALTPOOL biomass exchange can trade in biomass products that are certified by SBP, FSC, and Enplus

In 2021, BALTPOOL introduced a biomass traceability tool, allowing for the accurate identification of the origin of biomass and raw materials used in their production, as well as preliminary calculation of CO2 emissions.

BALTPOOL is a member of  Lithuanian Biomass Energy Association LITBIOMA, Bioenergy Europe and FIF Marketing division of Dansk Fjernvarme.
