Baly (Arabic: بَلي) is an Iraqi tech startup offering online ride-hailing and food delivery services in Baghdad, Iraq, through its mobile app. It is backed by the German venture studio Rocket Internet[1] and built by young Iraqi talents, with a vision to become the country's first super-app.
Baly's ride-hailing service launched and started city-wide operations in late 2021[2], shortly before launching its food delivery service, with a set of marketing campaigns initiated to generate brand awareness and acquire users to its mobile application. The startup emphasizes affordability as one of its key values and selling points. On its website, it states that its three main selling points are "affordability, comfortability, and safety".[3]
In January 2022, Baly raised a seed round of $10.2 million dollars (USD) from a list of investors including Majid Al Futtaim, Kingsway Capital, MSA Capital, Global Founders Capital, Vostok Ventures, and March Holding[4][5][6], making it the largest financing round for an Iraqi startup[7][8][9] as of 2022.
Baly has more than 70 employees, including some of the best local and global talent from McKinsey, INSEAD, Cambridge University, Baghdad University and Tsinghua University.[10]
