Band Famous
The Band Famous is a group of artists, musicians, and software developers[1][2][3] who released the Last Words EP on iOS. They can be characterized as an alternative-electronic group that uses a fusion of nu jazz improvisation, house beats and trance melodies to create an avant-garde sound comparable to musical groups "Prodigy" and "Björk."
On Sunday, November 23, 2014, the Band Famous was discussed on KCMP 89.3FM The Current's The Local Show with David Campbell and Jay Gabler as the first band who had "filmed their own birth" when a mutual friend introduced members Norell and Zander to "the Man" and an impromptu musical collaboration was broadcast live on the internet on July 26, 2013.[4] Their synth and ambient-inspired EP was released as the world's first “smart album” - an iOS app that features music, art and lyrics available offline, along with other features such as a game and videos.[5][6]
Famous was interviewed on JCT92.G Radio and Week ON Latino America Radio - broadcast to all of New York, Mexico, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic - where the lead singer Norell discussed their EP, upcoming second album, "Awakening", and a port of their iOS app - "The Band Famous" - to Android. On November 30, 2014, the band made their first appearance on cable television with JCT TV in Connecticut.
Famous' debut EP was completely improvised, with the band celebrating their App Release & EP Release Party along with their live debut performance on Friday the 13th, in June 2014 in the Annex Room at the Gay 90s nightclub in Minneapolis, MN. GLBT publication Lavender (magazine) printed the Love Monster poster for the Famous App Release Party in their May 29 – June 11, 2014 issue.[7]
The App Release Party featured other artists as well including body painting by mixed media artist Zander, also known as Jacob Alexander Figueroa.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
Famous is composed of lead singer and lyricist Norell, with Zander contributing to percussion, bass, and synthesizers, along with the Band Famous stage and visual presentation, and "the Man" contributing to synthesizers, keyboards and distortion. A featured artist with Made Here MN, with his exhibit, "TV Machines",[17] Terrance also has several apps available including the Radio K app for the University of MN.[18]
Famous attempted to crowdsource via Kickstarter in October and November 2014, with their projects and efforts supported by Emergency Broadcast Network's Greg Deocampo.[19] Although the band did not meet their funding goal, their second album remains in production, along with the port of their iOS app to Android. Lead singer Norell is currently working on her first autobiographical piece, which will be released as an in-app purchase.
