Bangalore Sisters
The Bangalore sisters, Sujatha Dutta and Sunitha Prakash, are a duo of Carnatic musicians and playback artistes.[1][not in citation given]
Early life[edit]
The Bangalore Sisters, Sujatha Dutta and Sunitha Prakash were born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and were raised in Bangalore, Karnataka. Their education was in Bangalore and they completed their graduation from Osmania University.
Family[edit]
Sumithra is the mother of the Bangalore Sisters, who was a disciple of Late Sri Balamurali Krishna, Late Sri Voleti Venkateshwarulu and Late Sri Ghantasala.[2]
One of the maternal aunts of the Bangalore Sisters, Late Smt. V. Sarala Rao aka Vakkalanka Sarala [3][4][5][2] was a playback singer in Telugu film industry who worked for All India Radio (AIR), Delhi as a vocalist & Radio broadcaster and later was the Chief Music Composer[6] in the Song and Drama division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India.
Sujatha Dutta & Sunitha Prakash are the cousins of Dr. Swapna Sundari,[7] an eminent Kuchipudi dancer[2] of international fame, who is a Padma Bhushan Awardee (2003)
Musical career[edit]
The maternal grandmother of Sujatha Dutta and Sunitha Prakash, Late Srimati C.Sundaramma was their first teacher. They have been trained in Carnatic vocal by Late Parvathamma & Sri M.V.Ananth Kumar and Hindustani vocal by Guru Sri Mahendra Nokad. Their work in the music industry began in late 1980s.
As a duo[edit]
Popularly known as The Suprabhata Sisters, they have rendered more than 5000 devotional albums[8] in Sanskrit, Kannada,[9] Telugu, Tamil, Hindi etc and have performed[10] in more than 1000 live shows all over Karnataka[11], most of them in various temples of South India, including Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, Tirupati.[12][13]
As solo performers[edit]
They have rendered over 10,000 songs in different languages for music albums of different genres like Bhavageethe[14], Bhaktigeethe, Navyageethe, etc[15] and have worked with popular music directors like Upendra Kumar, G K Venkatesh, Vijay Anand, Vijay Bhaskar, Hamsalekha, Sadhu Kokila, Guru Kiran, Manoranjan Prabhakar, Damodar etc.
They have performed in ETV’s 'Canara Bank Ede Thumbi Haaduvenu' with Late Dr. S. P Balasubramaniam, sponsored by Canara Bank, during its earliest days when this TV show was dedicated purely to professional performances[16]They have also performed in television programs 'Sandhyavandane' & 'Bhakti Lahari' telecast by Suvarna TV Channel, presenting devotional music in Kannada & Sanskrit.[17] They have been among the 59 artistes who performed the Karnataka State Anthem on Public TV.
Work in other languages[edit]
The sisters have rendered certain sacred scriptures which enrich the Jain heritage and have also contributed to a few Persian and Urdu music albums.
The very first Suprabhatam of Lord Igguthappa in Kodava language was rendered by the Bangalore Sisters.
As composers[edit]
They have composed music for close to 400 albums of various genres in different languages.[18]
Other work[edit]
They have been initiated into the holistic healing methodologies like Music and Mantra Therapy. [19][20]

- 'Kala Sarasvathi' title awarded by Sri Vidya Samsthe
- Sujatha Dutta is the recipient of various titles like 'Gaana Kogile', 'Gungu Hidisuva Gaayaki' & 'Kala Sharada' in the Kannada Music Industry
- Sunitha Prakash has been conferred with titles like 'Gaanaambika' (By Prof. Seshan Guruji) & 'Mrudu Kanta Ranjini' in the Kannada Music Industry
