Bangladesh Railway Class 3300

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Bangladesh Railway Class 3300 is a class of metre-gauge diesel-hydraulic locomotive in Bangladesh, operated by Bangladesh Railway. They are the second metre-gauge diesel-hydraulic locomotives of Bangladesh.

Details

In 1980, Bangladesh Railway purchased diesel-hydraulic locomotives units built on the DHM–12 platform developed by Ganz-MÁVAG, Budapest, Hungary. A total of 80 such locomotives were procured during 1980–1982, of which 60 were for metre-gauge lines. From these, 38 units were designated as Class 3200.[1]

Classification and numbering

The number-series/class of these locomotives is 3300. The locomotives were numbered from 3301 to 3338. The class-name/specification of the locos is MHZ-8, where M = Metre-Gauge, H = Diesel-Hydraulic, Z = Ganz-MÁVAG, and 8 = 8×100 hp = 800 hp.

Service & Operations

The locomotives were primarily intended for lighter mainline duties and heavy yard/shunting work. They filled the operational gap between the lower-powered 500 hp Class 3200 and the more modern MG diesel-electric fleet that arrived later. Currently, some of them are in service.

Preservation

Only two locomotives of the Bangladesh Railway Class 3300 are confirmed to be preserved:

Class Fleet Number Current Location Builder Transmission Gauge
MHZ-8 3309 Central Locomotive Workshop, Parbatipur, Dinajpur Ganz-MÁVAG, Budapest, Hungary Diesel-hydraulic Metre gauge 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in)
MHZ-8 3332 Saidpur Works, Nilphamari Ganz-MÁVAG, Budapest, Hungary Diesel-hydraulic Metre gauge 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in)

Notes: Both locomotives are preserved in workshops and are not in regular revenue service. They are primarily maintained for static display, training, or potential light shunting purposes.
