Barbara Kapusta studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 2004 to 2010 with Peter Kogler and Constanze Ruhm. 2006/07 she attended the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City studying with Sofia Táboas. The artist works in many techniques, for example photography, film, installation, object art and text. She is represented in numerous international exhibitions, museums and collections, such as the Mumok, the Landessammlung Niederösterreich, the Fotosammlung des Bundes in Wien, the Austrian Gallery Belvedere and the Gesellschaft der Freunde der Bildenden Künste Wien.

Barbara Kapusta holds a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Institute of Fine Arts, Department of Art and Digital Media. In 2017, the artist received the Niederösterreichischer Kulturpreis recognition award, and in 2020 she was awarded the Otto Mauer Prize.

Barbara Kapusta was elected Vice President of the Vienna Secession on October 4, 2021, where she works as a team with President Ramesch Daha and Vice President Nick Oberthaler.[1]
