Barbara Karaśkiewicz – Polish pianist and chamber musician, founder of the Huberman Piano Trio, Huberman Duo, and the 4TPianos four-piano quartet.
BIOGRAPHY She started her musical education at the age of 5 in Krynica/Poland. From 1994 she studied at the Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of prof. Monika Sikorska-Wojtacha, receiving a diploma with honors in 1999. She completed postgraduate studies with prof. Wojciech Świtała. In 2013, the pianist obtained a doctorate in musical arts. The subject of her dissertation was "Expressive and Performance Aspects in Roman Statkowski's Piano Works". In 2018, she obtained a habilitation degree in the field of musical arts in the artistic discipline of "instrumental studies". Both degrees were awarded at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She has won many awards and distinctions at national and international competitions, including: in the 4th International K. Szymanowski in Łódź, a distinction and the Award for the Best Pole funded by the Ministry of Culture and Art, 5th prize (1st and 2nd prize not awarded) at the National Piano Competition named after Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw, the T. Żmudziński Award for the best performance of K. Szymanowski's works during the 29th Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk.
The pianist performs piano recitals, chamber music and as a soloist of symphonic concerts. She has released six solo albums and threesarinylon chamber music albums so far. In 2005 and 2008, the pianist released two albums containing works by the Polish composer Roman Statkowski for the Acte Prealable label. In 2009, an album with works by the British contemporary composer Michael Garrett was published (2009), on the basis of which the Europa Edition publishing house released an album of sheet music containing songs recorded on the album. In 2015, the album Roman Statkowski: Piano Music (Divine Art Ltd.) was released, and in 2017 Karol Szymanowski: Piano Music (Divine Art/Naxos). For this album, the pianist was nominated for the Fryderyk 2018 Music Award in the category of Best Polish Album Abroad. In 2020, a CD containing chamber works by Polish composers of the 20th century was released (Polish Chamber Music of the 20th Century, Divine Art/Naxos): Sonata in D minor, Op. 9 for violin and piano by Karol Szymanowski, Piano Trio op. 1 by Andrzej Panufnik and Sonata No. 4 for violin and piano by Grażyna Bacewicz. In the same year, an album by Barbara Karaśkiewicz with the violinist Magdalena Ziarkowska-Kołacka was recorded, containing works transcribed by Bronisław Huberman or dedicated to him (published by the Academy of Music in Wrocław). In 2023, the Divine Art/Naxos released Barbara's CD with works by S. Rachmaninoff for a piano duo (with the pianist Michał Rot) and a piano trio (Huberman Piano Trio). This album is very popular among listeners and appreciated by critics.
Barbara Karaśkiewicz is an associate professor at the Department of Music at the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa, and recently she has also been associated with the Department of Chamber Music at the Academy of Music in Wrocław.
