Barbara Sutherland Walker (born Barbara Sutherland Farrow) was an advocate for Portland, Oregon parks, trails, and gathering places from 1968 to 2014 and is the namesake of the Barbara Walker Crossing, a footbridge connecting Portland's Forest Park and Washington Park.

Life[edit]

After going to school at Ainsworth Elementary School and Catlin-Hillside High School (now Catlin Gabel School), she went away to Massachusetts and attended Smith College to graduate in 1957 with a B.A. cum laude in Government. She was elementary in advocating for and establishing many park projects in Portland, including Marquam Nature Park and Pioneer Place.

She was a sixth generation Oregonian, descending from families that had arrived in Oregon in the mid 19th century on her mother's side.

She died on October 26, 2014.[1]
