Baron Roman Ernestovich Lipgart

Baron Roman Ernestovich Lipgart (Renault Franz de Lipgart) (1880-1942) was a naval officer, one of the founders of the Russian submarine fleet, tester of the first Russian and Soviet

submarines. He is son of Ernst Friedrich von Liphart and grandson of Karl Eduard von Liphart.

Life

Lipgart was born July 16 (July 3 old style) 1880 in Paris, France.

He graduated from the Naval Cadet Corps (1900) and the diving school; In May 6, 1900 Lipgart received the title of midshipman, in December 6, 1905 - Lieutenant, April 10, in 1911 - Senior

Lieutenant.

After the death of the crew of the submarine "Dolphin", Lipgart took command (09/03/1904–15/10/1904) and brought the boat to commissioning. In 1906, he worked at the embassy in Tokyo. In

1914–1916 he was authorized by the maritime department at the Rex, Tam and Tudor factories, captain of the 2nd rank. After the 1917 revolution, he was elected commander of the Petrograd

military port, then transferred to civilian service as an engineer at the Mint and the Pnevmatika plant. In 1918 he was elected director of the Petrograd Naval Base.

He died March 3, 1942 during the siege of Leningrad and buried in the Smolensk (Lutheran) cemetery.
