Barry Chusid is a Canadian film and television production designer of Jewish descent.[1] He is known for designing large-scale science fiction and disaster films such as The Day After Tomorrow, Serenity, 2012, and San Andreas.[2]

Biography[edit]

Chusid began his career as an architect at the Los Angeles-based firm Barton Myers Associates, where, among other projects, he collaborated in designing the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.[3] He began his film career in the early 1990s, first as a set decorator, then as an assistant art director and art director before working as a production designer on Daredevil and The Day After Tomorrow. Chusid has cited his background as an architect as informing his approach to design.[4]

Chusid shared a nomination for Excellence in Production Design from the Art Directors Guild for his work on The Patriot. He was also a Satellite Award Nominee for Best Art Direction & Production Design for 2012.
