Barry Silbert (born 1976) is an American billionaire venture capitalist and cryptocurrency investor. Silbert is the CEO of Digital Currency Group company.[1] As of May 2022, his net worth was estimated at US$3.2 billion dollars.[1] [2]

Silbert graduated from Emory University in 1998.[3]

Career[edit]

Silbert founded and was the CEO of SecondMarket a startup that simplifies secondary securities transactions. SecondMarket was purchased by Nasdaq in 2015 for an undisclosed sum.[4]

He subsequently founded the Digital Currency Group in 2015. He created the Greyscale Bitcoin Investment Trust or GBTC traded on NYSE.[5][6][7]

Prior to founding there companies he worked as an investment banker at Houlihan Lokey.[8]

An early investor in Coinbase and Ripple, Silbert has been named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young and has also made Crain's “40 Under 40” list of 2013.[9]
