Barry Yourgrau is an American writer and performer.

Biography

Born in South Africa in 1949, he came to the United States as a child and became an American citizen in 1974. In the 1980s, he performed an acclaimed reading act at venues throughout New York.

He had an eclectic career, appearing as Edward Teller in the film Fat Man and Little Boy, contributing to NPR's All Things Considered and appearing with his reading act on MTV Unplugged in 1993. He is a frequent contributor to publications such as Paris Review [1] and the Guardian [2]. His books have been widely praised and reprinted.

He wrote about his hoarding tendencies in his memoir 'Mess' and was interviewed by the New York Times[3] and Los Angeles Times with feature articles. [4]
