Basel Saneeb (Arabic: باسل محمد روحي صنيب) (born 1975) is a Syrian writer, journalist, and media expert originally from Homs.
He gained international recognition for his memoirs titled Spy... for Nobody!!! (Arabic: جاسوس... من أجل لا أحد!!!), in which he documents the internal structures of the Syrian security apparatus. Following the victory of the Syrian revolution in 2024 and the establishment of the transitional administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, Saneeb became a recognized voice in the media discourse of liberated Syria (under the independence flag: Green-White-Black).
Biography
Saneeb initially served in the security apparatus before defecting in 2011, at the beginning of the revolution, to join the opposition. He spent several years in exile in Germany, where he dedicated himself to the literary and journalistic analysis of the former regime's mechanisms of repression. During this period, he regularly appeared as an analyst on topics such as the threat of regime cells in Europe and drug trafficking.
Since the political change in 2024, he has appeared as an expert on official Syrian state media (Al-Ikhbariya). His analyses on state restructuring and institutional reform have become an integral part of the Syrian media landscape.
