BasicCAT is an open-source computer-assisted translation tool.[1] The original work was done by Xu Lihang and was designed to meet his personal needs for translating IDML and PDF files for publishing houses. It was then developed into a more universal translation tool.
Features
- Translation Memory
- Terminology Management
- Interactive Machine Translation
- SRX, TMX and TBX are supported
- Supported File Formats: txt, idml, PO, XLIFF
Comparison with Other CAT Tools
- BasicCAT is built from scratch. It is still a young project, meaning it does not have the problems inherited by other traditional CAT tools.
- It has a simpler and easier-to-learn interface.
- It supports merging and splitting segments with fewer limitations.
- Unlike commercial tools, it is open-source, and everyone can read its code and modify it to meet their needs.
