Basic 4
Basic 4 is a brand of breakfast cereal manufactured by General Mills. It was introduced in 1991.[1] In addition to wheat flakes, the cereal contains raisins, dried cranberries, almonds, rice puffs and vanilla clusters.
Naming
Until 1992, the USDA nutrition guide promoted eating from the Basic Four Food Groups. After the product was introduced, Basic 4 television commercials noted that when served with milk, the cereal provided "something from each of the four food groups"[2] with grains, protein (almonds), fruit (raisins/cranberries) and dairy.
Current marketing promotes the cereal as a blend of fruits, almonds and grains.[3]
