Bataar Enkhjargal

Bataar Enkhjargal (1892–1935), was a Mongolian officer who served before World War II. He is famous for the Halhamiao Incident (1935), during the Soviet-Japanese border conflicts, where he was killed by Japanese machine-gun fire.

Early life[edit]

Bataar was born in Hajkia, Mongolia on March 1892, to a nomadic family. He moved to Ulaanbataar later in his life, and became the commander of the 4th Mongolian cavalry unit.

Halhamiao Incident[edit]

On 8 January 1935, Enkhjargal led a reconnaissance mission of about 90 cavalrymen against a Japanese/Manchurian patrol base along the disputed border. He was gunned down by a machine-gun nest and died on the scene.
