Battat
History[edit]
The Battat family moved to Canada in 1968. The Battat company originally imported dry goods items, such as lighters, as well as toys. In the 1980s, the company began producing its own toys. In 1990, the company bought a plastics factory in the St-Henri neighbourhood to produce their own toys. Since 2006 the factory has closed and the toys are now manufactured in China and Thailand.[1]
Early toy products included the TERRA line of animal figurines, including highly collectible dinosaurs sculpted by Dan LoRusso. They were originally produced in 1994 in collaboration with the Boston Museum of Science.[2] The Terra Line has since continued, now producing a range of animals and dinosaurs[3]
They also have a 18 Inch Doll brand called Our Generation, which is known for being racially diverse and inclusive.[4] Our Generation doll line, has since seen fans create mashup with other well-known toys, such as G.I. Joes.[5]
In 2010 Battat launched a new B.toys brand, which attempts to be eco-responsible and also supports the WE Charity initiative.[6] Today, Battat remains family-run and is now led by Joe Battat and Dany Battat.[7] The company continues to partner with the WE Charity, donating a portion of sales to support ongoing charity efforts.[8]
