AMKUS Rescue Systems is an American manufacturer of hydraulic and battery-powered rescue and extrication tools, including cutters, spreaders, combination tools, rams, and stabilization equipment, used by fire departments, emergency responders, and motorsports safety teams.[1][2]
History
AMKUS began as a manufacturer and supplier of hydraulic rescue tools in the United States and later expanded its product lines to include battery-powered extrication equipment. In 2016, Task Force Tips (TFT) acquired AMKUS Rescue Systems, after which operations and manufacturing were consolidated in Valparaiso, Indiana.[3][4][5]
In the same year, AMKUS further expanded through the acquisition of 911 Tools, a company specializing in vehicle stabilization and lifting systems, integrating its RescueStrut line into AMKUS’s offerings.[6]
Products and Technology
AMKUS produces a variety of hydraulic and battery-powered extrication tools. Its **ION** line is among its battery-powered offerings. These tools are designed for high portability and reduced hose/cable complexity in the field. [1]
AMKUS continues to produce traditional[Hydraulic rescue tools] such as cutters, spreaders, combination tools, and rams, often used in vehicle extrication and rescue scenarios.
Partnerships and Use
AMKUS has maintained long-term partnerships with motorsports safety organizations. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) designates AMKUS tools as its official rescue tool brand.[7]
Emergency response and fire departments have used AMKUS equipment in actual extrication operations. For example, AMKUS assisted in training and tool donation to the Illinois Fire Service Institute. [2]
Certifications and standards
AMKUS’s battery-powered ION tool family received UL certification to confirm compliance with NFPA 1936 (2015 edition). The certification tested tool performance, safety, and endurance, including testing of the motor, electronics, and hydraulic system.[8]
The U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Space Force have procured AMKUS Rescue Systems extrication equipment for operational use at Patrick Space Force Base, Florida.[9]
