Battle Grounds 3 is a first-person shooter multiplayer modification under the Source Engine[1]. It's the third release in the Battle Grounds series, the biggest change being the migration to the Source Engine 2013. The game is currently on Early Access available on Steam for free[1]. Following the series style, it's set on the American Revolutionary War where players can play as different types of soldiers and use weapons such as muskets and swords. It's characterized by a fast paced melee combat and the use of realistic muskets that can only load a single shoot, are moderately inaccurate and take several seconds to reload.[1][2]

Gameplay[edit]

The game has various gamemodes like skirmish, siege, capture the flag or linebattle. On Skirmish mode players need to capture one or more control points (flags) in order to win. On linebattle mode each team forms a line and a commander manages the regiment through orders like "fire", "hold, face left" or "moving up". On linebattle mode players are obligated to strictly follow the orders.[3] Each weapon has unique stats and are good at certain situations. Muskets like the charleville and the revolutionaire are good at long distances while the Brown Bess and the long patter have better melee range. Most firearms are able to kill a player with a single shoot on the chest, at short to medium distances. Compared to the previous game Battle Grounds 3 has several additions like the new siege mode, improved graphics, bots, new weapons and the granadier class.[1][2]

Classes[edit]

Battle Grounds 3 players can play as several classes, including:[1]

  • Infantry
  • Officer
  • American Frontiersman
  • American Militia
  • Minuteman
  • Hessian Jäger
  • Iroquois warrior

  • Granadier

Each class plays differently is good at certain situations. In linebattle mode the only class available is the Infantry (and one officer for the commander) [3] and in competitive skirmish there may only play one of each class per team (Infantry has no limit).
