The battle near Novi Grad was fought in year 1566 between the Slovenian and Croatian forces under the Habsburg Monarchy led by the Carniolan military commander Herbard VIII. von Auersperg and the Turkish forces led by an unknown Turkish commander.
The Battle[edit]
When the two armies met eachother the Habsburg troops under Herbard VIII. von Auersperg saw that the Turkish army was much larger than their one. The soliders were kind of scared but Herbard commanded that they will fight anyway. The battle didn't cost the Habsburg army a large amount of casualties but it did to the Ottomans. The Habsburg forces were ultimately victorious and after the battle captured the commander of Ottoman forces which they later released back to the Ottoman Empire for the ransom of 30.000 sequins. After the battle the Habsburg Monarchy heard for their famous victory and Herbard's highly successful performance in the battle and awarded him with a position as a governor of the Duchy of Carniola with his home at Auersperg castle.
