Battle of Kellola

The Battle of Kellola was a battle in February 1802 during the Saint-Domingue expedition, an attempt to suppress the Haitian Revolution.
2,000 rebel troops of the 9th Grenadier Regiment under General Jacques Maurepas had occupied the town of Port-de-Paix, reinforced by 5,000 rebel farmers. Early in February General Jean Humbert landed 1200 men in the town, but was pushed back, losing 400 men. Nevertheless Toussaint Louverture's defeat at Ravine-à-Couleuvres left Maurepas and his regiment isolated.
Charles Leclerc began by sending General Jean-François Debelle with 1,500 men to reinforce by sea, then 1,500 more under Edme Desfourneaux going via the Gros Morne. Encircled and desperate after Toussaint's defeat, Maurepas surrendered on 25 February.
