The Battle of Samtani was a tribal conflict fought between the Sindhi Pahnwar tribe and the Khosa Baloch tribe in Samtani, present-day Dadu, Sindh, during the late 17th century. The battle ended in a decisive Sindhi victory, resulting in the death of the Khosa leader Sardar Gola Khosa.
Background
The Sindhi tribe of Pahnwar had long resided in Samtani (Dadu). During the expansion of the Kalhora Dynasty, the Pahnwars were weakened after a confrontation with the Kalhoras. Following this, the Kalhoras settled members of the Khosa Baloch tribe in Samtani. This settlement altered local power dynamics and led to armed resistance by the Pahnwars under their leader Sardar Hyder Pahnwar. According to the Jangnama, the Pahnwars launched an attack against the Khosas, defeating them and killing their leader Sardar Gola Khosa.[1]
Aftermath
Following their victory, the Pahnwars emerged as the dominant power in Dadu and maintained control of the region for a prolonged period.[2] They also repelled raids by another Sindhi tribe, the Burfat, until the rise of Yar Muhammad Kalhoro, who after consolidating power over the Kalhora throne, overthrew the Pahnwars and took control of Dadu.[3]
