The Battle of Uralsk is one of the battles of the Russian Civil War
Course of action[edit]
During the spring offensive of Kolchak's troops on April 16, Dutov captured Aktobe. On April 21, Orenburg was practically surrounded by the Whites, who had a fourfold superiority over the forces defending the city. The situation near Uralsk sharply worsened. The weakening of the Soviet troops in the Ural region led to the revival of the Cossacks and their offensive from the south to Uralsk. The leaders of the region noted the "terrible organizational ruin", the acute shortage of Soviet workers, the lack of weapons and asked for immediate help.
However, a 6,000-strong Red Army detachment sent from Buzuluk[2] was defeated by the Alash troops: 2,000 people, according to the Whites, were killed, 2,500 were taken prisoner.
Trying to concentrate large forces, Alash-Orda organized a mobilization, but out of 1,500 jigits called up, the bulk fled to the auls, having learned about the upcoming offensive of the Reds. Only 500 people were recruited again. The headquarters of Alash-Orda was located in Zhympity[3].
