Bawdie is a town founded by the Wasa people. It's located about 155km southwest of Kumasi.[1] Administratively, Bawdie falls within Wassa Amenfi East Municipal in the Western Region of Ghana. Bawdie is 18km away from Wassa-Akropong, the District Capital and 8km away from Apeatse, a small village destroyed to the ground as a result of the 2022 Bogoso explosion.

Farming and Mining are the two major economic activities for residents in the town, with the majority of residents engaged in illegal mining activities. [2] [3] [4]

The soil type in the Bawdie area allows for the production of a variety of food and cash crops such as Cocoa, Rubber, oil palm, plantain and cassava. With the surge in global demand for rubber, many farmers have started replacing their cocoa farms with rubber plantations.[5] This notwithstanding, Cocoa remains the predominant cash crop grown in the Area. [6] [7]

Bawdie is home to Bawdie Arboretum Reserve which is an ecotourism reserve center.
