Bayview Asset Management (Bayview) is an American hedge fund management firm headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida. The firm focuses on credit related investments across residential, consumer, and commercial credit, including whole loans, credit risk transfer transactions, structured products, and mortgage servicing rights. [2]
In addition to its headquarters, Bayview has offices in New York, London, Geneva, and Luxembourg along with loan servicing and origination affiliates in seven U.S. states and Milan.
Background
Bayview was founded in 1993 by David Ertel, who serves as its CEO and chairman.[3] The firm entered the secondary mortgage market in 1995 and has since transacted with over 2,000 counterparties.[4]
At an earlier stage of its growth, Bayview sold a minority stake to The Blackstone Group.[4] The firm subsequently expanded beyond its original whole loan focus, developing strategies across mortgage-backed securities, mortgage servicing rights, and credit risk transfer transactions.[5]
In 2023, Bayview launched an insurance asset management division, targeting insurers seeking exposure to residential loans and private structured credit.[6] In April 2025, the firm launched a fund finance business as part of a broader push into asset-based finance.[7] That same month, Bloomberg reported that Bayview was exploring the sale of a minority stake as the firm continued to scale.[3]
In November 2025, Bayview completed a $1.3 billion acquisition of Guild Holdings Company, taking the mortgage lender private.[8][9]
Bayview is ranked among the largest hedge fund managers in the United States, placing in the top 20 to top 50 depending on methodology.[10][11]
