Beaches On The Air

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Beaches On The Air is an award scheme that encourages portable amateur radio operation from beaches.[1] [2] [3] It organises awards and rolls of honour for activators (those who operate from beaches) and chasers (those who make contact with beach activators from home or elsewere). The scheme is managed through a website where activators and chasers are encouraged to announce, report and showcase their activities.[4] The website includes a searchable list of eligible beaches, but also allows the addition of new ones sponsored by users.[5] Beaches On The Air is a complement to other popular schemes that encourage portable amateur radio from islands, mountainous areas or public parks.[6] [7] The idea was conceived in Spain in 2013, although it really took off in December of 2015 when the first activations were reported.[8] International users now call CQ from beaches all around the world, in countries such as Greece,[9] United States, Portugal, Spain, Indonesia,[10][11] United Kingdom, Canada, Italy,[12] Saint Lucia, Puerto Rico,[13][14] Austria, Belgium, Brazil,[15] Sweden,[16] South Africa, Morocco, Australia or Romania.[17]
