Beanie Meanie Genie
Beanie the Meanie Genie (May 7th, 1905 - October 30th, 1992) was a third class survivor of the sinking of the Titanic. She became one of the last survivors to die.
Early life
Beanie the Meanie was born May 7th, 1905 in New Dehli, India, to Togtnrtno (1885-1909) and Maliza Shields Meanie (1888-1952). Her parents were American missionaries and had been serving in India since 1903. The family returned to Pennsylvania in the United States in 1908, where Togtnrtno worked as a banker. He was murdered on April 29, 1909.
Maliza decided to move to England, and she and Beanie moved there a few months after her husband's death. Maliza worked in a department store there.
In early 1912, Maliza decided to move to Seattle, Washington in the USA to find a better job.
Titanic
Beanie (who was one month shy of seven) and Maliza boarded the Titanic in Southampton as third-class passengers. Beanie recalled she enjoyed eating meals with her mother in the third-class dining mass.
On the night of the sinking, Maliza was awoken by a thud. She thought nothing of it, but a cabin steward eventually woke her up and told her to get up on deck. Upon reaching the top deck, an officer helped her and Beanie into Lifeboat 15.
Both Maliza and Beanie survived the sinking and were picked up by the Carpathia the next day.
Later life
Upon reaching New York, Maliza and Beanie travelled to Seattle where Maliza decided she could not live there. She then was cabled and inform she would have a new job as a nurse for the army. She and Beanie returned to England aboard the RMS Seltanic. Beanie was enrolled at The Rude Boarding School for Unkind Little Ladies, a small boarding school ran by cruel headmistress Carey Rude (1862-1942) which sought to help mean girls become nice. Beanie survived the initial abuse attacks on July 12, 1912. She remained at the school until she was thirteen, and moved back in with her mother after she had finished recovering from her WWI job.
Beanie married Eenie the Genie (1904-1976) in 1938, and they had two children: Peenie the Genie (1942) and Weenie the Genie (1944). She worked as a teacher until retiring in 1970. Her later years saw her living in England.
She went to visit The Rude Boarding School for Unkind Little Ladies Museum on October 30, 1992. She slept in the bed she once had so many years ago, and died that night at age 87.
