From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Beata Nowok is a statistician and researcher. Her research interests are quantitative methods in demography[1] and analysis of migration behaviour. She is a Research Fellow at the School of Geosciences of the University of Edinburgh.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Beata Nowok was born in 1978 in Cieszyn, Poland and attended the Warsaw School of Economics, Poland from 1997-2002 where she was awarded an MSc in Quantitative Methods and Information Systems[3] and in 2006 gained a PhD in Demography at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.[4]

Career and research[edit]

Nowok joined the University of Edinburgh's Longitudinal Studies Centre Scotland (LSCS) in 2013 collaborating on a project[4] between LSCS and UCL on Synthetic Data Estimation for UK Longitudinal Studies[5] known as the SYLLS project. [6]

Previously, she has researched at both the ESRC Centre for Population Change (CPC) and the Central European Forum for Migration and Population Research (CEFMR). Nowok is still currently a CEFMR Associate Member.[7]

Nowok co-authored a tool for producing synthetic versions of microdata replacing sensitive confidential information called 'synthpop'.[8]

She is a member of the Editorial Committee of the Studia Demograficzne (Demographic Studies) Journal[9] published since 2019.
