Beauty Pie is a direct-to-consumer, membership-based luxury beauty and health products on-line brand.[1][2]. The company was founded with the mission of selling luxury beauty and health products at fair prices[3][4]. Beauty Pie sources directly from manufacturers, cutting out the middlemen and retail markups[4].
Founded in 2016 by Canadian serial entrepreneur Marcia Kilgore, the company is headquartered in London, England, and also operates in the US.
The company closed Series A investment[5] in a round led by Index Ventures[6], Balderton Capital[7] and General Catalyst[8][9]. Figures of the round have not been disclosed[10].
Retail Model[edit]
Beauty Pie carved out a niche as a direct-to-consumer brand founded on the psychology behind consumer behaviour[11]. While mainly online, Beauty Pie hosted a pop-up event at Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge, offering workshops hosted by Founder Marcia Kilgore and drop in passes[12].
Beauty Pie operates a tiered membership model, similar to US grocery warehouse club Costco[13]. Members choose between a one-off yearly subscription (£99 in the UK[14], $99 in the US[15]) or pay a monthly fee of between £5 and £20[16] ($10-$30 in the US[17]). All memberships come with a monthly spending limit. Users then get access to buyers’ club prices, which are the face value prices for skincare, make-up and haircare products bought directly from the manufacturers.
Products[edit]
Beauty Pie provides a range of products including makeup, skincare, haircare, bodycare, fragrance, gifts. In 2020 the company launched supplements as a new product category[18][19]. These are currently available in the UK only and will be made available in the US later this year[20]. Each formula is made without fillers, GMOs, artificial colours or preservatives.
Beauty Pie is cruelty free and against animal testing[21]. Beauty Pie made a commitment to be completely transparent about the ingredients they use in products and all ingreients in each product are listed on each product page[22]
