Beer52 is a UK-based craft beer club.[1] Delivering monthly subscription boxes, it was started by the 2014 Young Entrepreneur of the Year,[2] James Brown and his business partner Fraser Doherty MBE in 2013. James was inspired by a motorcycle road trip around Belgium with his dad that sparked his love of craft beer. He then realised that there was a gap in the market to bring together craft beer lovers and small breweries who made high-quality beers but lacked the ability to scale and compete with big brands for space on supermarket shelves. After a stint in Edinburgh's Entrepreneurial Spark accelerator, the company went on to crowdfund £100k in just 38 days via the Angels Den crowdfunding platform. Further investment arrived in 2016 from backers such as Skyscanner co-founder Gareth Wilians, Andrew Brendon of Secret Escapes, and Alex Carlton of Funkin Cocktails.
Subscription
Beer52 runs a monthly beer subscription service.[3] Each month, members receive 8–10 craft beers, a snack, and an issue of FERMENT magazine. They have been highly reviewed in many well-known publications such as the Independent and the Evening Standard.
FERMENT Magazine
Starting as an A5 booklet sent to members in their monthly boxes, Beer52 now produces the 100-page FERMENT magazine that aims to educate readers about the beer they're drinking, the breweries it came from, the industry as a whole, and the team's adventures around the world. The magazine was picked up by WHSmith in May 2016 and added to 2,000 of their stores.[4] You can also read FERMENT magazines online[5] and watch the team's travels around the world on their YouTube channel.[6]
