The term Behavioral Harm Reduction was first coined by the Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center (AnB) which is located on the west side of Chicago. It is a variation of the traditional Harm Reduction moniker but it references the surrounding, contextual issues of harm reduction which includes cognitive behavioral therapies, counseling, and community interactions. As yet, there are no references because the subject is so new even though Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center has the term printed into its literature as far back as 2017. The use of the term is integral throughout the clinical protocol of the Evidence Based Practice and it applies to a good number of psychological, mental health, and behavioral therapies that are otherwise misidentified. The website of Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center, a 501C3 nonprofit, is explicit in explaining that all services are free, so there is no fiscal advantage to this term being adopted on a widespread basis or not.
