Belen Bernal is the current mayor of South Gate, California.
Bernal was elected to the South Gate city council in 2015, and was elected to serve as the city's mayor in 2018. Bernal started her political career as a representative for former California State Assembly member Marco A. Firebaugh.[1]
Bernal graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2003, earning a bachelors degree in Psychology, and graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 2012, earning her Masters degree in Business Administration.[2]
Bernal is bilingual, being fluent in English and Spanish.[3]
