Bella Poarch (born on February 8, 1997), is a Filipino-American internet personality, recording artist, and United States Navy veteran.[1] She is best known for having the most liked video on TikTok, in which she lip syncs the song "M to the B".[2][3][4][5] In May 2021, she released her debut single Build a B*tch.[6][7] Poarch currently lives in Honolulu, Hawaii.[8]
Early Life[edit]
Poarch moved from the Philippines to the United States when she was 13.[9] Before starting on TikTok, she was part of the United States Navy for 3 years.[1]
Career[edit]
Her career as a content creator started in 2020. Months later she held the record of the most liked video on TikTok with her lip sync of the song "M to the B."[10] Poarch is also famously associated with her alpaca stuff toy.[11][12] In 2020, she released a limited clothing line RIPNDIP x Paca Collaboration.[13] In May 2021, she signed a music record deal with Warner Records.[14]
Controversies[edit]
Bella Poarch has often been critcised for more reasons her career:[15]
- "Being famous for nothing"; Bella Poarch often gets hate for "low effort" in her videos.[16] In spite of this criticism, Bella keeps getting popularity.
- Racism; an offensive tattoo on her arm and an apparently "racist joke" atractted more criticism.[17]
- Bella confirmed she didn't know her tattoo was offensive and got it covered as it is seen on a recent TikTok post.[18] "I apologize to Koreans because 6 months ago I got a tattoo of the red sun with 16 rays. At that time, I didn't know the history. But when I found out, I immediately had it covered and scheduled for removal. I am ashamed of myself for not doing my research. I sincerely apologize.", she said in a Twitter post.[19]
- The apparently racist joke was a post of her calling a black man "Harambe"[20]. People thought it was a racist post. But "Harambe" was actually his military nickname. "My friend Albert is Samoan, and I did not give him that nickname. It's his military nickname." , she said.[21][22]
