Belle Gisele Nuru (born November 12, 1988) is an American singer-songwriter, A&R executive, and actress.[1]

Early life and career[edit]

1999–2015: Beginnings[edit]

Nuru was born in New York City to a mother of Brazilian and Irish descent, along with a father of Ethiopian descent. After competing in various talent competitions around the around the country at the age of 10 she released a cover of the Boyz II Men song A Song For Mama, which gained attention of major record labels. At the age of 14 she signed a development deal with J Records, which released her debut single "Always" in December 2003.

Her debut album was originally planned to be released in 2005, but was pushed back in favor of a career in songwriting. Over the course of the next decade, Nuru worked closely with many fellow Sony artist, particularly those under Clive Davis's leadership. She played a major role in the careers of singers Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis and Jennifer Hudson. As a writer, she went on to work with Beyonce, Britney Spears, P!nk, Fantasia and Fifth Harmony, among others. Collectively, over 120 of her songs have been included on major label releases.

In 2009, she was appointed as the executive vice president of talent development at J Records.

2016-present: Music and film ventures[edit]

In January 2016, Nuru announced that she would be begin working on her own music career once again. on June 3, the pop/R&B single "I'll Wait" was released to radio stations. Written and composed by Nuru, the single received positive reviews and was followed by a two EPs titled "Thank You" and "I'll Wait", released as a digital exclusive. Nuru has stated that she plans for her debut album to be released in 2017.

Aside from music, Nuru revealed that she would be executive producing, starring in, and composing the music for the sequel to the 2003 film The Fighting Temptations.
