Belzeba

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Belzeba figlia del Diavolo is a comic book character created by Sandro Angiolini (1920-1985) in 1977.[1][2] for the Italian publisher EdiFumetto, founded by Renzo Barbieri, as part of their line of erotic comics (fumetti per adulti). Born from the womb of a cow —a beast— Belzeba is the daughter of the Devil, who sends her to Earth to thwart the plans of Tomás de Torquemada, the Inquisitor General of Castile and Aragon during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs. Conceived as a cunning, cruel, and lascivious character, the "Princess of Hell" is characterized by her hermaphroditic condition[3]

Over the course of 30 episodes and 2 supplements ("I mori lussuriosi" and "Belzeba e il cavalieri," the latter published in I Notturni #24, June 1978)[4] released in Italy starting in 1977, Angiolini constructed a saga filled with blood, violence, and horror, imbued with black humor in his characteristic erotic and grotesque style, often punctually explicit, frequently bordering on vulgarity[5]. A saga that revolves around the relentless confrontation between Belzeba and the Inquisitor General.

Characters

  • Tomás de Torquemada, intelligent, cruel, sadistic, does not hesitate to commit all kinds of atrocities in order to maintain and increase his position of power within the Spanish Crown and to destroy his main opponent, the daughter of the Devil. A strict sexual moralist, he secretly enjoys dressing in women's lingerie. His peculiar exorcism method involves 'expelling' the current demon by sexually penetrating the possessed victim.
  • Queen Isabel of Castile, passionate and sexually unsatisfied, occasionally makes Belzeba her lover and ally in an attempt to nullify the power that Torquemada has accumulated as the Inquisitor and royal confessor.
  • King Fernando of Aragon, indolent and not very intelligent, allows the concentration of power by Torquemada and remains unaware of the queen's infidelities.
  • Fray Jacinto, the Inquisitor's secretary and a frequent victim of his wrath, progressively loses parts of his body with each punishment from his master.
  • Prince Consalvo, the handsome and ambitious brother of the king, occasionally allies with Belzeba in his attempt to seize the throne. His attraction to the daughter of the Devil —mutual— persists even after discovering her hermaphroditic condition.
  • Jen-Haro, a rogue who impersonates the identity of a Chinese torturer, ends up being vampirized and becomes Belzeba's most loyal friend.
