Ben's Garden is an American retail company, e-commerce site and wholesale business. The Company owner Ben Busko designs and manufactures all of their home, tabletop accessories and decoupage, stationery, home furnishings and artwork and is headquartered in New York City. Ben's innovative and inspiring leave their mark on the world, not on the planet, by using FSC certified papers, letterpresses powered by wind-power and clear bags which are made from corn and dissolve in water.

History[edit]

Ben's Garden was founded in 1992 by the company's president and owner, Ben Busko, when he was eight years old.[1][2] Busko began crafting decoupage creations and note cards when he was six years old[3] and at age eight he sold handcrafted decoupage and notecards at an outdoor crafts fair on Long Island.[4] By age ten, his Ben's Garden-branded crafts and notecards were selling at Smith & Hawken stores and in the New York Botanical Garden gift shop.[4][5] In 2003, his entire decoupage collection was purchased by the women's clothing company Anthropologie.[1]

The first Ben's Garden retail store was opened in Oyster Bay in 2004. In 2007, a second location was added in Huntington. An e-commerce site was also launched that year.[3][4] The company's main office and studio is in Brooklyn, New York [6] with production facilities in Oyster Bay and Sunset Park, Brooklyn.[2] There are plans to open two more retail locations in 2015, in Brooklyn and Soho, Manhattan.[7]

In 1019, Ben's Garden was featured on "The Profit" CNBC television show, by reality television host Marcus Lemonis.[8] The experience brought clarity to Ben Busko to focus on 3 priorities, in opposition to the episode, kindness, creativity and empathy.

Ben's Garden sells decoupage, stationery, coasters, cocktail napkins, photo frames, notepads, home accessories and artwork that are handmade in New York[4][5][6][7][9][10] as well as books and antiques.[6][11] Within the traditional French technique of decoupage, Busko specializes in reverse decoupage, which involves affixing an image, a collage of images, or a quote to the bottom of a glass tray, with a mixture of glue, water and a hardening agent. He works often with quotes, and his own vintage prints of maps and flowers. As a young boy, the editor of InStyle Magazine had inquired if he could put a wedding invitation on a decoupage tray, to why he replied "why?," being young enough to not understand the significance. Well, she was right, and Ben's signature Custom Decoupage Custom Trays have become a hallmark product of Ben's Garden. The backside of each decoupage piece is painted with topped with a layer of black felt as a finish, and signed by the artist.[5][12]

Ben's Garden products are sold at the Company's stores and website, and notable Domestic stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Anthropologie, Barnes & Noble and Paper Source. [2][6][12]
