Ben Brode is a Game Director at Blizzard Entertainment. He is most well-known for his work on the game Hearthstone.

Early life and Education

Brode attended Culver City High School in Culver City, California, from 1996 to 2000. He later attended the University of California, Irvine from 2000 to 2003, where he studied computer science.[1] During this time, Brode got a job working for a pizza shop, where he delivered pizza to a team working in the Quality Assurance department at Blizzard.[2]

Career

Brode was hired by Blizzard Entertainment in March of 2003 as a Quality Assurance Analyst, where he worked on the Night Crew[2]. In this role he worked on the games Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft. In July 2005, Brode became a Producer at Blizzard, where over the course of three and a half years he worked on the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, and the World of Warcraft RPG, as well as other licensed products. In June of 2008, Brode began working on an online version of the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, and transitioned to Game Design. Eventually that game would become Hearthstone

In November of 2013 Brode was promoted to senior game designer on Hearthstone, the game for which he is best known. In March of 2016 he became the principle game designer for Hearthstone. Shortly thereafter, in November 2016 Brode was promoted to his current role as the Game Director of Hearthstone.[1]


Brode left Blizzard in April 2018, and in July 2018 announced the founding of his new development studio, Second Dinner.[3]
