Ben Brown is an English lawyer and the Crown Counsel to the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.[1][2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Brown was born and grew up in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.[4] He obtained his law degree at Nottingham Law School and completed his Legal Practice Couse at the University of the West of England. Brown obtained higher rights of audience shortly after being admitted to the Roll of Solicitors.[5]

Legal career[edit]

Brown worked as a criminal defence solicitor in Nottingham, England[6][7][8][9][10][11] and has provided legal commentary to the media on aspects of criminal law.[12][13]

On 9 February 2021, the Governor of St Helena appointed Brown as the Crown Prosecutor for the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.[14] He is Crown Counsel within the Attorney General's Chambers in Jamestown, Saint Helena and prosecutes cases before the Saint Helena Magistrates' Court, Saint Helena Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.[15][16]

Brown is an advocate for diversity and social mobility within the legal profession.[17][18][19][20][21]
