Ben James Davis (born November 24, 2000) is a footballer who plays as a midfielder for English club Fulham and the Singapore U19 team.[1]
Personal life[edit]
Davis was born in Thailand to a Thai mother and a British father, but moved to Singapore at the age of five and gained citizenship there in 2009. He studied at the Singapore Sports School from 2013 to 2015 before moving to London's Harrow High School in 2016.[2]
Early career[edit]
Fulham[edit]
Davis earned a two-year academy scholarship with the English Championship side after impressing in trials and pointed to the example of Ryan Sessegnon, another Fulham scholarship recipient.[3]
The 17-year-old Singaporean signed his first professional Fulham contract in June 2017.[4]
Since he is Singaporean, he is expected to serve two years in National Service (NS). He can apply for deferment, but no Singaporean football player has had a successful deferment.[5]
International career[edit]
Youth[edit]
Davis represented Singapore's under-19s national squad.[citation needed]
Senior[edit]
Davis was first called up to the Singapore national team in 2018 for the friendly against Maldives on 23 March 2018 and the 2019 Asian Cup Qualifiers against Chinese Taipei on 27 March 2018 when he was aged 17.[6]
Although he chose to represent Singapore, he is still eligible to play for England and Thailand due his father and mother respectively being of each nationality.
